Level 1: Intro to Short Form

Intro to Short Form

Level 1 is for anyone interested in learning the foundations of improv comedy. In 8 weekly sessions, students learn short improvised scenes and games while exploring character, object work and environment. Emphasizing listening, agreement and mutual support, Level 1 teaches valuable skills to performers and non-performers alike.

This class culminates in a showcase, where students demonstrate what they’ve learned before a supportive audience of family, friends and fellow improvisers.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of Level 1, students should be able to:

  • Accept and build upon the offers of other improvisers.
  • Actively listen and react to scene partners.
  • Recall and contribute specific details.
  • Create imaginary environments through object work.
  • Use emotions and point of view to create characters.
  • Make bold statements and choices.
  • Share the stage with fellow improvisers in a constructive and collaborative manner.
